Lebanese President Michel Suleiman and his Wife will pay a two-day official visit to Damascus from August 13th to 14th 2008.
Upon the invitation of President Bashar al-Assad and his Wife. The official SANA news agency reported.
According to local analysts, President Suleiman is faced with a tough mission during his two-day in visit syria capital.
The establishment of diplomatic ties and the opening of embassies will top the agenda of the meeting between Suleiman and his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad.
This meeting would mark a new era in ties between the two neighbors, comes following a series of crises which shook the bilateral relations since 2004 when the Syrians pressed to prolong the mandate of former pro-Damascus President Emile Lahoud.
Syria withdrew its troops from Lebanon in 2005 following the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, ending nearly 30 years of military presence in the country.
The mission of the Lebanese president will not be an easy one, some of tough subjects to tackle during the summit would include, the demarcation of borders between Lebanon and Syria, the Lebanese detainees and missing persons, the Israeli-occupied Shebaa Farms, where Beirut claims sovereignty with the consent of Damascus, a fate of a Lebanese-Syrian higher council and a 1991 friendship and cooperation treaty.
The anti-Syrian camp which holds the majority in Lebanon's parliament wants both the treaty and the council to be scrapped.
